Hanumanasana (Monkey or Splits Pose)

Hanumanasana (Monkey or Splits Pose). This pose, named after a Hindu deity for the devotion he showed towards his king,  represents devotion,  faith, and the ability of the body to stretch and open. You cannot rush into this pose you are forced to slow down, honor the body, and open the soul. 

How To:

Start in downward facing dog

Take a bend in both knees and step one foot forward between your hands coming into low lunge pose

In low lunge push the hips forward coming deep into the hips

Bring the hands to the mat by the hips

Begin to slide the front foot forward

Keep the hips square while extending one foot to each side of the room

Engaging the glutes and the quads keep the pelvis level, keep both legs extending straight

Once you’ve reach the ground life the arms over head and relax the shoulders down the back

Breath!
